Best game EVER? I think it might possibly be. At the very least on the graphics, AI and physics. It is simply mind blowingly good looking and the physics just make the game feel so real. The enemies are very intelligent and will fight just like you don't want them to - well. Fortunately a couple of well aimed shots to the head should take them out.

I pre-loaded this game through Steam - the new internet delivery system they were trialing for the release of HL2. It worked well and I was playing the game very soon after it was released (12.00am PST, and so 8.00am here Smiley ).

Anyone who has the PC capable should check this game out. It's groundbreaking and every bit as much fun as the last. Apparently the most fun bit is yet to come though (for me) as things really start to heat up when you get the 'Gravity Gun'. I'll report back on that one later when I get my mitts on that Smiley

Erm... I changed my mind.  You should get a desktop PC instead. They are cheaper and more easily upgradable! As for the loan... I might need to see if Kay has some spare cash hidden in a sock that SHE will lend ME first!!

15p? Wow 5 more p and I have a banana! Mmmm...

OK well I am (apparently) not even 1/4 of the way through yet. I have got an airboat and have been racing around the canals and then hopping out when there are annoying things like flood gates to be opened (heavily guarded of course). I have picked up a fair artiliary so far including a pistol, a semi automatic machine gun with rocket powered grenade launcher attachment, hand grenades, a magnum (not the ice cream) and of course the ubiquitous crowbar.

Just recently I have come across a base of the Resistance and they were kind enough to upgrade my airboat to include a gun they stole off a helipcopter! It must be some kind of energy gun though as it replenishes ammo automatically while you are not using it.

It's a really tense game and it looks and sounds so good (especially in 5.1 surround) that you could really believe you are there! And to make matters worse when a major combat scenecomes up it plays this really racing music that just makes you even more tense!

Really great stuff though... I just wish I had a lot of money to spend on my computer that would let me push all the settings to the max! Yes it looks stunning but it could look stunninger!!

I'm fighting the 'Combine' - basically the police for this futuristic world where you can't go anywhere without someone tracking you and social interaction is monitored just in case you are conspiring against the government.

For those not familiar with the story of Half Life 1 you play Gordon Freeman who is a scientist working for Black Mesa - a shady goverment research facility. You are involved in an experiment which goes a bit wrong and opens a rift into an alien dimension, flooding your reality with vicious aliens who seem to have a real problem with you.

You have to fight your way through waves of aliens to get back to the surface only to find the military are there with instructions to kill anything that comes out of the research facility - alien or human, in an attempt to cover up the whole incident.

In the sequel it appears to be set a few years on and although you won the battle, the world is a very different place. This new government has taken away any sort of freedom people had and if you step out of line you are taken out. There is a resitance made up of people who were involved but managed to escape from the original incident in HL1 and citizens who are strong enough to fight for what they believe in. You are most definitely on their side.

Going through the game you discover that aliens are still on the planet and interestingly some are actually on the side of the resistance, helping out where possible. But most of them are used by the Combine as weapons against you.

I think that is a fairly good summary of what I'm up against! I'll let you know when I make any firther progress!

O M G ! ! !  Shocked  Shocked  Shocked

Im surprised I have time to login to the forum, HL2 rocks! I got my copy a couple of days ago and iv been playing non-stop. I love the "dont go to raven" level, the gravity gun is absoloutly awsome (especially when combined with a saw blade Wink).

Did anyone complete the first one? I found the ending ok on it so i cant wait to see how this ends (no i havent completed it yet, im near, lol)

Seriously guys, I cant explain how much I love this.

OK well you have already passed the point where I am! So don't give anything away, OK? Smiley

I finished the first one yes, the ending was a little weird but I think they must have had a sequel in mind the whole time. I wasn't entirely sure about the final journey to Xen but it played alright and it was fun messing about with those low gravity conditions Smiley

Ok Mark:

I purchased this one yesterday along with EA's Medal of Honor Pacific Assult Director's Edition.  As I am a Pacific Theater World War II Historian I loaded this one up first and all I can say is WOW!!  This is a first person shooter where you are a U.S. Marine fighting in the Pacific in World War II.  You start at Boot Camp to learn how to move, fire, and survive.  Then its out to the Pacific to battle the Japanese.  The opening sequence of the Marine's landing at Tarawa on November 20, 1943 has to be seen!!

Half-Life 2 is going to have to wait a bit longer I am afraid!!  Smiley

Yeah but the trick is to choose a server with a low ping and only about 8 slots (the less people there are the less likely it si they're gonna be on a modem Wink )

have u tried the new maps Cheesy, the "crossfire" map is an old halflife map revamped and is great to play.

A little tip; whilst playing, open up the console and type in "ch_createjeep" - YES on a multiplayer sever, and if the server admin has enabled cheats, which 10% of them have you will get the buggy! and can run over the other players. Also try "ch_createairboat" or somthing like that anyway (just for fun  Tongue).
