Of course you know I was there, could have been in the second row but decided to sit a little back further as I heard there was a slide show. AMAZING, thats what I left with. Some of the things he drew that never made it to the movie or the books.. wow.

He asked that we didnt take pictures because of copyright and all that.. like pics of Sarumans book, the idea of having the balrog come after the fellowship ( to much for the movie effects wise) the drawings of Orthanc, inside, the characters and what they may look like before cast, after cast.. wow. He also showed us his favorite drawing.. and of course it was LOTR but didnt make it to the movie Sad Tom Bombidil( thats spelled wrong Sad ) but wow the detail and how he talked for an HOUR about being there, working with everyone, and john.. a great guy. He took more questions then he should have, he showed up early and was standing there ( took about 15 mins for people to see he was in the back but I was right there Tongue ) signing things early, did a little sketch for the make a wish foundation which was cool, talked. got his email addy, what he is working on. Asked him if topps or anyone else has ever come to him about a sketch card set and he said no but it was a great idea and he would do it. so someone go wake up topps. I talked to him for about 5-10 mins in the begining about his drawings, cards ect. He will be coming out with a The art of Lord of the Rings book soon ( it was delayed) and also ALSO!!! He is putting together the best of his sketches from  the sets of LOTR and making his own sketchbook and should be out next year he said!!

Just an amazing person how he can just talk to everyone and listen and hear what people want to ask. nothing denied. So when it was my turn of course i got a couple things signed Smiley and he told me if i wanted to stay until everyone left and he would draw me a little sketch, I was like no way!! so I got my stuff, talked to the guy at borders running it as I talked to him for a while when Sean astin came to borders and he said no problem waited, went up at the end and got my sketch.. wow. How a guy can just sit down grab a pencil and a razor blade sharpen it and draw gimli in like 5 mins is so cool! talked to him some more and I was on my way. Great guy!

I will of course post some pics as when I got home I got sick and had a bad night Sad

Well here they are!

First me and the man!

And here is him starting the sketch, you can kinda see the card I made up. I made i think 4 or 5 different sketch cards and also a special puzzle for him Smiley

I had my ROTK litho signed which I will get up and pics of ( it is also signed by Howard Shore) and also a poster from his posterbook signed Smiley

Was a very cool guy and got to spend more then 5 seconds with him and got some autos and a sketch Smiley

The nice thing about him was when I opened up the posterbook and pulled out the one i wanted signed he asked if I wanted them all signed Smiley

Wow Jas it looks like you made an amazing job of making the sketch cards! Hurry and get us a scan up!!!

It was really good of Alan Lee to take the time and trouble. He could obviously see the hard work you put in. I am REALLY glad that I didn't get that Yak Shack logo to you - it looks far too fabulous as it is and all golden and wonderful - our toony brash YS logo would definitely be out of place Smiley

So when's the base set coming out to match the sketch cards you've got Wink?

That must be a first for you Roz!!  Wink Tongue
j/k

Seriously though, you did a fantastic job on the cards and it's wonderful to know that Alan took such time and trouble with the things he signed and drew for you .... let's hope some of the other LOTR stars follow his lead! Grin

Excellent Goofy ... thanks for sharing them with us! Cheesy

Hi Jason:

Did you ask Alan Lee to draw Gimli or did he make that decision himself?  Also if you got to choose the character why did you choose him instead of all the other characters?  Just curious.   Smiley

Hi Jason:

Thanks for the answer.  I guess I am a little bit surprised then that he did not ask you if you had any favortite character or location you would like drawn.  I agree what he did was awsome too!   Smiley
I guess this falls under Artist preference.   Smiley
