Nah this hasn't been posted before - its the first time I have heard of it going black! How long has your friend had their card and where have they kept it since they had it?

Its funny as I have a FOTR Viggo auto sitting on my shelf - it was displayed on my desk at my old place and in light etc (not sunlight), but it hasn't faded at all... I just compared it to my other autos

We see them a lot on ebay Jo - signatures that look very dark blue and somehow look thinner than their counterparts are UV light damaged Sad I don't have a solution though

ya i think it was on a wall in direct sunlight-shudder- the moment i saw it though i ran home and put mine safely in a binder and bought sone uv protector sleves Grin i'd say this is the safest bet and prevention is better than a cure.but watch out it really does thake the look from the card its like Roz said the sig looks thinner

I'm not sure there's much anyone can do.  The problem might be the quality of the ink.  I bought an autographed and framed photo from a local sports collectibles shop.  After a few years, the blue ink faded to almost nothing even though the photo was never in direct sunlight.  Unfortunately, the shop was out of business by the time we noticed the fading.

Some autos are in black.  I think there is a Gollum auto signed in blue, and some that were signed in black.

Very few were black in fact. Only a handfull of ROTK Gollum autos were black and were handed out prior to the release of the set - so most people believe there is no UV coating (which apparently is applied after the actor has signed) on these autos.

Christoper Lee signed some of his FOTR autos in black, and Theoden/Bernard Hill signed some of his in black - however all of these were using black pen. Often on ebay we see Orlando Bloom TT autos with thin dark dark blue lines and that is what Saruman is chatting about here. I know it's most common with OB - I haven't really seen it on many others so yes it could be the pen he was given
