Ahh Anna's on the case ok. Well it's all useful stuff for the price guide Since Tower was the one who sent me the link to this auction, he has a vested interest in the outcome.

My thoughts exactly! Bet Jason (the seller) is happy with the price though!

I think we've all arrived at a very special place. Spiritually, acumenically, grammatically.

Well you might say it's an ordinary base set but we only know of about 7 to have leaked out. Which makes it pretty rare!
And with SS being printed in gold, it's a shame there's no PoAU ones come out.

The thing is - is it the rarity that makes it so desirable and is that a good thing? Imagine if they only had 30 Figwit autographs or 30 random Hufflepuff member #4567. Do we want it because it is so rare or because we really want it? Not so much an ordinary base set, but a glorified one?

Well - that brings in the whole peartree argument, a Triple auto or a piece of the permission slip is more exciting than the leaf, but it's rarity not content in this case that dictates the price. Although if you consider that most of the ROTK autos have the same insert ratio and then look at the price you will be assured that content does at least have some influence on price

Collectors are a weird "race" of human beings. No accounting for taste. I opened a box of cards and found some with almost no foil printing on them. Probably worthless. Consider this in coins. The Canadian Mint issues 1 ounce gold Maple Leafs with a face value of $100.00 Are they worth $100.00 Canadian? I guess so since they sell them for around $500.00. Collectors.....isn't it great!?

I guess they ARE a collectors item - I am guessing like most other coins of their kind they are legal tender, but as if you would use it if what you spent on it was 5x it's face value!

So you think that 300 is too high, huh. There are roughly 32 of the Gold sets out there, and that makes them only double the Tobacco cards in population totals. Here are those auctions, folks: \http://www.t206museum.com/page/ne_highlight.html These gold cards are scarce like Cobb 206 Tobacco cards, and the prices WILL mushroom in due time.

Cheers twoends, but do you think that in the end, there's a limit to what people will pay for a base set of cards... even with a different colour foil? I have so many base sets at home that I can't face buying these!
