Did anyone else watch any of the Live 8 concert(s)? There were definately some great performances. Pink Floyd was awesome, they sound the same or better as their Albums. I still can't figure out the reasoning for picking certain artists to perform in certain places....like Snoop Dogg in London? I think Ali G was the only one at the venue who looked like he was a Snoop fan One thing I just never seem to understand is these actors and musicians who talk about how little money it would take to end poverty in Africa, I would love to see how many of them have ever given a red cent? I know some certainly "put their money where their mouth is", I would have liked to see them cut some checks for a donation! You see them on MTV cribs with their 24 KT gold sinks in the bathroom and $400K Bentleys, and 20 luxury cars in the driveways. I would certainly check a box on my taxes contributing money to go directly to relief in Africa. Other than playing in a concert how many of them really give anything to the cause? Many will be the first to run their mouth about political and social issues. I don't know if this is 100% true, but I thought I saw an article that said that the musicians and actors who were participating in Live 8 were getting like $30,000 gift bags like they do for the Oscars and similar events....Did anyone else hear this? It makes me kind of sick if that is true:P

I watched part of the concerts; it started at 11pm here in Aus, and by 2am I was stuffed so I went to bed. We got a highlights version last night but it was all the old time acts, some of which I would have preferred not to have seen...at some point ill have to sit down and plough through the long version.
While its true many celebrities have more money then sense, quite a few of them do donate money... I hadnt heard anything about gift bags though...

what does "stuffed" mean? Is that slang for tired in Oz? Here most would think that means you ate to much and are full Certainly many rich people give I don't doubt that one bit, well most are also advised to by there accountants, after all rich people need tax write offs worse than anyone else. I wouldn't be surprised if half or maybe all do give money to poverty in Africa, but I would be interested to really know for sure.

Stuffed can mean being full as well, but the way Kate was using it, it meant exhausted. It can also mean being in trouble - for example: "My partner found my credit card bill for my card habits - I'm so stuffed!" Some of us might be able to use that as a new phrase now

glad to see that we are passing on some of our Australian terms yep I meant very tired when I said stuffed, but like Jo said, I occasionally use it to mean in big trouble, ie "Im so stuffed/screwed" I sometimes use it when ive eaten too much, but mostly I say im "choccas (sp?)", as in "choc-a-block"

Trying to get back on topic... I agree with you Becks, I watched part of a program recently called 'Millionaires' lifestyles or something. It showed several gadgets and novelties like luxury cars that turned into speedboats, underwater bachelor pads, undersea jet planes, privately owned tropical islands etc, etc that were all worth into the several millions that 'Tom Cruise owns 10 of these' or 'George Clooney has 2 that he takes on holiday' or 'Oprah hired out this entire resort for X million dollars for her summer holiday' and similar. While these items looked like fun for about a week or so, I could see myself getting bored with them really quickly, and for celebs that could afford to buy several of these types of things, I'd guess they would get bored of them even quickly as they would see them all the time I'm not saying that they shouldn't splurge on a few things, but sometimes, the things that they do splurge on make me wonder... You'd think that they would think of putting at least money spent on these things to better use like providing water and seed to a needy village or providing immunisations and vitamins to a thousand children. Much more useful than a floating car

That is exactly what bothered me the most, I am sure some of them do a fair share of work and give some money for the cause, but what is a lot of money to someone who makes $20 mil. just for shooting 1 movie. Just like I have never agreed with the stink over downloaded music. I know I have been exposed to some music I wouldn't have otherwise heard and then ended up buying the cd because I liked it. How many artists complained it was taking so much of there money they wouldn't be able to make a living. Sure there is the other side with people who have probably not bought a cd in 5 years of so, but I won't buy anything that is say....Metallica, because they made such a stink about Napster. IMO celebrities, pro athletes and famous musicians for the most part have no sense of reality at all. We actually had an NBA player who rejected at 10+ Million dollar a year contract extension offer from his team (he was making like $12 mil or so per year currently so it was a little bit of a pay cut ) and in an interview he actually made the comment "how am I supposed to feed my family". I about had a fit when I saw that interview, the poor guy, it must be tough how can we expect a person to live on 10 million a year. Must be tough

I agree with both your sentiments. if they think they would struggle on $10mil a year, they should try living a week like the rest of us, that would set them straight
