Wasn't it mentioned somewhere that voldy cast the dark mark above the potters house...or am I making this up?? Cause if the dark mark was there then they would have been easily findable after the 'incident'

I don't recall reading that. Even if the Dark Mark was above the house, how did Hagrid know to leave Hogwarts (or wherever he was) and go to Godric's Hollow?

Dumbledore im assuming as he brought harry back to Dumbledore in Privet Drive... I always thought it was the dark mark that alerted them to lily and James' deaths and that Dumbly sent Hagrid to get Harry from the house Dont know where I got that idea though but that is what has been in my head for the past few years!

How did Dumbledore know to send Hagrid to get Harry? Peter was alive and the secret was intact. What we don't know is what happens when the people being hidden by the Fidelius Charm die. Maybe that destroys the secret.

How did Dumbledore know to send Hagrid to get Harry? If the dark mark was indeed cast like I think (or have created in my mind haha) then Dumbly would have found out quickly and then asked Hagrid to go and get Harry. I dont know where im getting this dark mark stuff from..will have to investigate in my books/movies, im sure that I have seen it somewhere as this has been in my brain for ages and has been my belief all along....hmmm

Someone else would have had to make the dark mark maybe Peter but I'm not sure he would because it all went wrong remeber. I have an other theory, what if the secret was no longer secret as it was to keep their whereabouts secret, but didn't the house blow up. Therefor say numbe nine godricks hollow no longer existed. Does anyway understand what I am on about.

Are you saying that the secret hid the house, not the Potters, and once the house no longer existed, neither did the secret? That's intereting.

guys i have an idea i may be totaly off the mark but wasn't it harry's dad that faced voldemort first that way lily could have sent her patronis to dumbledore or because dumbledore knew they where in danger have a secret way of communicating but he couldn't get there in time to save them but he could save harry
just a thought let me kno what you think

Unless there's a loophole in the charm that we don't yet know, Lilly can't reveal the secret to anyone. Only Peter can. I think if there were any chance of saving the Potters, Dumbledore would have apparated to Godric's Hollow himself instead of sending Hagrid. But there's another unanswered question -- where was Dumbledore after the attack? Why didn't he retrieve Harry from the ruins of the house? After all, he knew the details of the prophesy and how important Harry and Neville were.

Did anyone else see where Barnes & Noble has released some kind of an upcoming release sheet with the Next Harry Potter Book (no title listed)? It's pretty basic saying that there will be a 40% discount for those who pre-order in advance. There was no date listed for a release, but it could be a sign that they have at least received some information from the publishers, maybe. I'm reaching for clues, I know.

I'm reaching for clues, I know. Reach away That is the most positive news we have had for ages . I have started the books from the beginning so that I finish them all by the time the next one comes out (I am not the fastest reader ) and one thing has struck me about Dumbledore. He doesn't seem surprised by anything. It is as though everything that happens is already known to him, maybe through divination or through a Merlin type insight. Now this could be due to his age and wisdom but I am not convinced at the moment. It is almost as though Dumbledore is just acting as an observer to events he knows will happen but can't or won't interfere with. Either that or I have just been watching too much Stargate at the moment (it you don't like SG1 this will mean nothing to you ).

I know what you mean...he never seems shocked at any events that might occur. Do you think he might have known that Severus Snape would kill him? Do you think that maybe Dumbledore had Snape kill him?
