But but ... It appears that you might get "credit" for killing somebody if it's done by your agent. It's not clear, but I think we're meant to think that Myrtle's killing enabled Tom to make the diary into his first horcrux. And Frank Bryce was killed by Nagini, and Dumbledore was sure that Nagini is a horcrux. Would Jo have kept associating significant deaths with horcruxes, and then beg off by saying it was a different killing that was responsible? Some poor unrecorded soul died for the diary, and another unrecorded soul for the snake? That just doesn't seem very neat to me.

Lily and James are the only ones we know were killed directly by Voldemort. We only have his word for it that he killed Tom Riddle Sr and his grandparents up close and personal. That's why I tend to believe it's killings we know about that are the important ones, even if the act is only performed on Lord V's orders.

Of course I'm almost certainly wrong, again!

I don't know if this has been discussed yet, but something in OOTP kind of hit me last night.  When the kids went to the Ministry to save Sirius, shouldn't they have run into the Order member who was guarding the prophesy that night?  I've always thought that the Order had a spy, and maybe this person is the one.

after watching the ootp film last night, i was amazed at the omissions, more that the obvious changes from the book to movie. i noticed omissions in plots that have been discussed on this forum before, that many thought was important to predicting the outcome of the last book. There was no letter delivered to aunt petunia from a mystery person, no Mundungus, no mention of Regulius Black, when they were in the family tree room. does this mean that conjectures made concerning the importance of the letter to petunia, Mundungus perhaps stealing a horcux and RAB meaning Regulius Black have no meaning in the whole context of things? I'm sure JK previewed and approved the omissions and changes from book to movie prior to the movie being released. perhaps we should look at the omission in the various movies when speculating about the final book. it would be hard to transfer a plotline that was omitted from one movie into the next, if it wasn't address in that previous movie. perhaps the devil is in the details. just a thought. Huh

Well, sometimes they find ways in the movies to collapse and combine several plot threads.

***MILD SPOILERS BELOW IF YOU HAVEN"T SEEN THE MOVIE***

R.A.B. doesn't really come into play until Book 6, so I don't think it has to be a significant omission. But maybe the moviemakers will use a character we've already been introduced to as a stand-in for Regulus. Somebody had to go to the cave (with Kreacher) to pick up the Slytherin locket, or it wouldn't be around Harry's neck in the book covers! I thought "how it got there" probably had to do with Mundungus, but possibly they will collapse the whole thing and have the real locket show up in the pool at the cave. Or maybe Mundungus will be combined into a Hogsmeade thread, because I'd like to see Julie Christie again. (There's lots of plot to delete, after all. It's funny how Neville seems to be doing lots of Dobby's work.)

After OOTP I think we can conclude that the mirror Sirius gave to Harry, and the Time Turners at the Ministry, will not play a big role in Book 7. And we've probably seen the last of Lockhart. Don't expect much in the plot line of Firenze and Trelawney.

I think they're going to expand Luna's role, and maybe she or one of the other Gryffindor students will fill in the gaps that would allow them to avoid introducing new characters. But really, trying to imply there's some shipping going on between Harry and Luna ... I think they were too nasty to poor Cho.

I thought the semi-possession of Harry in front of Dumbledore and the "everybody has good and evil in them" was a bit heavier set of hints, versus the books. And the Dumbledore escape scene implies a bit more was going on than a phoenix' ability to carry heavy loads.

*** MILD SPOILER BELOW IF YOU HAVEN"T FOLLOWED THE TRADING CARD SET ***

Really, did they have to issue an autograph card of Jim McManus as "Aberforth Dumbledore"? You knew it and I knew it, but the movie credit was just for the "Barman."

Yes I think the movie gave us more hints about book 7 than anything so far.  The mirror does seem to be a dead duck but I think the centaurs and giants will play a major part - the centaur scene was completely unnecessary and I felt was only stuck in the same way Kreacher was shoehorned in.  They could have easily got rid of Umbridge a different way.

I have a feeling Percy will play a big part in DH, something I hadn't considered before.  Whilst he wasn't named he was clearly following Fudge around.  The prophecy seems to not be that important after all, it was such a throw away bit.  And, as already mentioned, what about the letter to Petunia!!!!  I still think this will be a huge revelation in DH and maybe JKR asked for it to be left out so that people like us wouldn't guess too much in advance  Wink
