If you go to JK's site and click on rumours, it comes up as a book with some flashing ads at the bottom. These ads change frequently - the latest has an ad for the Quibbler with the headline that Fudge has been chased from office - could this be a hint for HBP? Ministry of Magic in chaos and Fudge kicked out - I'd be surprised if this was not the case actually, he sure stuffed up the whole 'stop Voldemort's return' issue didn't he?

Ok, this is probably THE most far fetched idea I have come up with... I was thinking about Dudley being the HBP *smirks* and thinking - well that's not really possible, is it? It would mean either Uncle Vernon or Aunt Petunia being magical. I think we can safely rule out Vernon and the more likely would be Petunia anyway with Lily and all. Maybe Petunia was a failed witch? A squib - and jealous of Lily, so in denial because she could not compete? But I am not sure as to the 'blood status' of squibs - are they mudblood or half blood or pureblood? I mean, if you came from a pureblood lineage and turned out to be a squib, what would that make you? Would this be enough to make it possible that Dudley is a half blood?( )

Well I never, I suggested the same thing to Mark whilst we were making our way to Dengie this afternoon ... Mark pointed out (we had already assumend petunia was the magical one) and Vernon was a King

Maybe we have been thinking about this all wrong... what about Hagrid? We know very little of his family but are sure we will hear more. He's not traditionally half blood because he is half giant but he's half wizard so to me he's hal blood!
I wonder if I might be on to something!

Ooooh... yes! That may be what I was trying to get it about the half blood not referring to wizard blood in humans only, but other races as well. Hagrid... you may have struck gold there! Otherwise Lupin may be another contender. But I put my money on Hagrid here. I love this thread, but we need more minds to throw into the melting pot! Come on guys, what does everyone else think? There has got to be others out there who are slightly interested in Harry Potter 6!

I like the idea of Hagrid but I suspect it will be a character that has only had a minor part or referred to in passing that we have all dismissed. I can hear us all saying 'ah but of course, it was obvious, should have seen that one coming'.

I'm interested how many generations of magical parents you need to have before being considered a pure blood. Because even though Lilly was a mudblood, Harry was born to two magical folks but he's still a half blood. Do you think there has to be no trace of muggle in your blood line to be a pure blood? Because if so, I think there are quite a lot of half bloods around for us to think about! Doh!

To narrow it down wouldn't it be a character that was featured in the Chamber of Secrets movie (however small) as Rowling has sway over what goes into the films and what stays out due to its relevence to later books. I heard in an interview she had to tell the director to leave in certain points or characters that seemed minor as they have a higher significance later. Justin, Colin Creevey maybe? Maybe Snape is Slytherin/Voldemort's heir somehow and..... [Goes off to lie down contemplate th deeper meaning of her life]

Good point greenpaw about the movies. But I think it couldn't be Justin or Colin/Dennis Creevey as they are all mudbloods. That leaves only 300 other possibilities All very difficult. Hope brain does not explode with frustration trying to work out who it is before HBP comes out!

Sean Finnegan is the obvious choice on this one, but I wouldn't discount Dean Thomas either! I can't recall where I read it now, but I'm fairly sure Dean has a wizard father and is actually raised by his muggle mum and step-father ... perhaps Mugglenet can verify or refute this? Viktor Krum is another possibility even though he doesn't appear till GoF. (not really likely, but you know what JKR is like for pulling a fast one!) I'm not too sure how many generations it has to go back for you to be considered 'pure blood', but I do know that Neville and Draco fall into that category and doesn't Sirius state in the OotP that all pure-blood families are inter-related when he and Harry are looking at the Black Tapestry? He and Tonks and Narcissa and Bellatrix are all related, so my guess is we'll find out more about Lily and Petunia's background. Oh ... and don't forget ... 'Godric's Hollow' ... the place where Harry's parents had their home ~ surely not a coincidence on the name there hmmmm??! My money is on the fact that Harry is Gryffindor's Heir! Just my two Knut's worth!

Nice one Nienna about the Harry being Gryffindor's heir, it s what ALOT of HP fans thought including me. What about little things like when Harry first tested his wand in PS it emitted red and gold sparks? And of course the whole pulling the sword from the hat thing in CoS as well of course

SO true! JKR has admitted to one an interviewer about the link to Godric's Hollow and Gryffindor House and saying rather cuttingly that her editor (I think that's who it was ... sorry if I'm wrong!) didn't catch thtat link! I've been cheating and listening to the audiobooks of Stephen Fry's readings of them ... soooo good and very funny! LOL I still stand by Harry being Gryffindor's Heir ... now I'm going to be made a fool of when the next book is published

JK's site has a poll on her site where she has listed 3 popular fan questions. The one with the most votes at the end of the month, she answers. The questions are: 1. Is Percy working undercover for any secret organisation/boss? 2. Where has Peter Pettigrew (Wormtail) been since the end of GoF? 3. What did Dumbledore's Howler to Aunt Petunia mean? (Remember my last?) What do you want to be answered? All 3 is not allowed I want to know the Howler question if I had to pick one, but also would like to know where Wormtail has been hiding/up to as well

Here is my idea I think it is Neville Longbottom. He is learning more and has come into his magic in book 5 and he was the other child in the phophecy and it was only lord voldemort decision to go after harry potter that put him in the lime light what if he has chosen wrong and neville was the really prince

Undoubtedly Neville has a lot left in him to show us - remember in the DA he was second to only Hermione by the end!

Updated JK site - she reveals that Tom Riddle is not the HBP, the link between (if any) between CoS and HBP and whether Arthur Weasley will become Minister of Magic Oh, and she is expecting her third child soon... bless

Arthur weasley for Ministry of Magic now that would be cool his first arrest would have to be himself lol But i think that Arthur is uncorruptable and has a mind of his own and would be great in that role
