Looks good, just thinner and they have moved the power button (which I never got used to!!) I hope it's made of the same shell as items like a PSP or something like the IPOD shell - perhaps that's too pricey when those machines cost 2-3 times as much $145 (translated from just over 18,000 Yen) is the new price. How much is the current DS in the US? Our DS is around that here - maybe a little less. Here's an old and new DS side by side (based on measurements declared) The odd thing is that Nintendo can't keep up supply with demand in Japan (I think that's the effect of animal crossing and mario Kart) - apparently second hand systems currently sell for $200+ at the moment because of the shortage It's scheduled for release in Japan March 2nd, and Mark and I have pre-ordered ours already (I think my current DS is SO the product of 'playschool' design company ). The DS is an awesome system and it would take me too long to list all the great games on it (IMHO most are released by Nintendo only tho), and the Nintendo WIFI system is so well set up that it works like a DREAM! It's an awesome bit of kit. Erm so if anyone's looking for a hardly used Ninty DS then let me know, Although I won't sell it til I have the Japanese one but it will still be the current model in the UK&US ) although with Animal crossing finally having landed in the UK it may be a little more used by the time I sell it

They are $130 by me now. I like the looks of this new one, but the current one is not that big as it is. Interesting.

I've updated the above with a size reference pic. I have also adjusted the price because I translated it wrong (it's a while since I last translated Yen to US $ I don't normally need to know that ) To be fair the exporting guys are all charging $170 ish at this point, but like Britain, the cost of living his higher in Japan than the US so I daresay this explains it partially - I usually get my stuff like this from Lik Sang or Play Asia http://www.lik-sang.com/news.php?artc=3784&lsaid=181138http://www.play-asia.com/SOap-23-83-j30-71-8s-74-106-49-en-84-n.htmlYou have to be careful to know the good guys when you are importing from half the world away, but Lik Sang is in Kowloon and I know lots of lovely people now in Kowloon, Hong Kong Is it just me or are Nintendo nutters? They produce top class games but some of the concepts seem crazy - take this for example lol I've played this one and actually it's weirdly addictive but also they have made a game about being an attorney

I tell you what I've fallen for (but not bought) and that's the black game boy micro!! I probably won't buy one (as I've put my order in for this instead) but it's an awesomelooking little machine. I don't think that colour is released in the UK which is good - so at least I don't see it in every shop window

Wait and see how good it looks in person Mike and make your decision then, so far they haven't announced a release outside of Japan (but I think that is probably due to the shortages of DSes in Japan at the moment), but I'll post pics of mine when it arrives and by that time there'll be far more images about. There's no doubt about it the DS is a marvel. I didn't appreciate that until I saw how easy Wifi was and how refined it was too. It is a tad more expensive for the DS but the funcionality is far superior. I don't know the sort of games you like though (except movie spin offs )

No, Mike, I meant the new DS hasn't been announced for the US yet The micro is out everywhere I'm pretty sure even the black is available for the gameboy micro in the US. (yes we have colours you don't, but I'm not a fan, I love the simplicity of the black micro - let me find pics) I also like this because it's the Famicom Micro (the Japanese name for the NES - slightly different colourings to how it was released here and in the US) but very very very very cool.

I am thinking about getting a skin for my DS...a Harry Potter one. Anyone have suggestions? And can skins easily be removed once you get bored with them? To be honest, I love the simple silver look to the DS as well. Mike, it is great. I don't have the wiFi connection yet, but I already love the DS. It is just awesome.

Well the difficult bit of the wifi is already built into your DS I don't know where you can get HP skins, but they do very easily come off, and there's no probs with that. I have had some cool skins on my SP, that I took off time and again, but I have only had one on my DS, then again it stops it getting any scratches on the top too which is rather nice.

I haven't bought a ds yet. I have only seen a couple games that I'd want to get for it. I might pick one up when they get a lot cheaper.
The micro is TOO small for me. It is nice and compact, but it's too hard to use.
Back in the day when the Gameboy Color was out I picked up a faceplate kit. It had two white plates that you could paint. It was the only time I saw it too. I think that was a nice idea.
Japan gets about every kind of game and accessory that you can think of. I've read about some odd games.

Wow - did you ever use all the face plates? I'd have loved one of those. I still have my gameboy colour I still have my original game boy - come to that - I also have a collection of Game and Watches from back in the day (I didn't have these when they came out - I bought them before I started collecting trading cards ) They are game and watch "crystal screen" games - so they are transparent through the screen!! Some of my favourite possessions ever

Actually I designed one but didn't paint it. I still haven't used them Yet! That was soon before the 'Advance' came out. I have a gold and a silver face plate also. I leave the silver on it. I took it to school with the silver plate on and showed some people and they wanted to know when the "silver" color came out. . I still have my GBC and I have 2 GBA.

Is the screen smaller? Does it seem any easier or harder to hold?

The screens are the same size BUT are the same quality as the micro (I believe) - the buttons have been moved further 'up' the DS as people have complained of hand cramps as the buttons are too near the bottom (apparently). I can't WAIT. I don't think that any are in the US yet Sara (well, maybe Nintendo of America have a few)- those pics have Japanese Kanji in the background. There are prototype models in shops all over Japan, as it's out in a few days (March 2nd). Sara - with the official UK Nintendo Magazine this month there are some AMAZING DS decals... Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, Miyamoto's signature, and Nintendogs... in fact I am ALMOST tempted to take off my Pirates one since it's only the prototype... although I'm not sure that I will.

Oooooooooooooooooh it's arrived. I opted for the enamel dark blue one which had a later release date than the white... and it's soooooooo lovely - the DS should have been like this all along (DS Tetris and Metroid have arrived too - on DS Metroid you can talk to people over Wifi - yay - free phonecalls )
