PS3
« on: January 31, 2006, 02:23:24 AM »

Does anyone know when the PS3 will be released?  I've asked some guys at my local gaming store and they are still pretty vague about when it's coming out.  "Spring" is the best they can tell me.  I'm not looking to buy a PS3, but I'm actually waiting to see if the PS2 will come down in price to $99.  I would like to play my games again (PS1 broke), but I don't have a lot of time to play, and don't want to invest much $ in a system.

Originally I heard it was coming out in June or July, but from what I have now heard on G4, it should be out closer to christmas time....I REALLY do not think Sony will let Microsoft have an entire christmas in sales over them again, so prob a November/December release

From what I had last heard (and it has been a few weeks), I don't belive that Sony has announced a release date for the PS3 yet.  But I agree that we should expect a release by Christmas.  I highly doubt that it would come out in the spring because Sony would want to time the release for the Christmas rush.

Right now most retailers are selling PS2s for around 150$ and you can get refurbished and used systems much cheaper.  I would imagine that Sony will bring the price down to 99$ once (or slightly after) the PS3 is released.

There is no shortage of good games for PS2 and great old games from the PS1, so there is certainly no rush to get out and spend the money on a system.  All those games will be waiting for you whenever you do purchase one, however Evil

Christmas?!!!  Aaaakkkk!  Tongue  I may not be able to wait that long.  I have all the Tomb Raider and HP games for Play Station already except the GOF and Quidditch WC, plus a couple of pinball games and one or two games for the kids.  I bought those for my PS1 that died.  I just bought Alias for about $10 and I was really looking forward to getting a system in a couple of months.  Hopping Mad  Well, Target has a PS2 bundle with a wireless controller plus a Ford driving game for $150.  I may pick it up tomorrow.  Anybody interested in the driving game?  I can't stand them.  Roll Eyes

I would recommend looking around a bit before buying a bundle with a game you know you won't enjoy.  I know that different stores from time to time offer different bundle game incentive packs.  Unless you are that excited to get playing Grin.  However, if you are really pumped, I certainly wouldn't wait around for a price drop because it might be awhile.

It seems that EBgames is selling systems for 150$ new, so if you feel adventurous than the Driving game bundle pack wouldn't be overpriced by any means.

I guess it is up to you, but I love and adore my PS2 and also still play PS1 games on it.  I know that you will have absolutely no regrets if you purchase a system.  In most cases, your PS1 games will look and play better on the PS2.

Now that you've reminded me.....I think I'll boot up a few of those old Tomb Raider Titles (I have some great memories from 2 and 3 in particular  Grin aaaahhhh)

Love the old TR games....

You can get a refurbished one for about $120 at gamestop.  These are not bad.  Our PS2 was sent in for repairs once, because apparently, the first ones that came out had a problem years done the line, and they fixed it for free.  Now, it is fine...so there should be no problems with the refurbished ones.

Do you have a BJ's wholesale, Sams club, or Cosco's by you?  They usually have bundle packs as well with different games.

If you do get the driving game, let me know how the wireless controller is.  As for the driving game, I have a driving wheel which makes them more fun to play, if the game is compatable with it.

But hey, a PS2 is a cd player, and a DVD player too, so it is well worth $150.

I bought it!  I went to Target this afternoon and said "what the heck?"  Plus, the lady in the electronics section let me pick my own wireless controller to complete the bundle which I don't think she was supposed to do.  I picked up a nice one for $30.  Cool  The Ford Racing 3 game that came with it was $9.99 and it really doesn't look too bad.  If I don't like it, I'm sure Jordan and her friends will be thrilled with it.  Wink  So all in all I got $40 worth of stuff for free.
I knew the PS2 played dvd's, but I didn't know about cd's.  That's pretty cool!  I'snt there an extra thing to buy to get the dvd/cd player to work?  I'll have to get that too.  Roll Eyes

Hooray - that's great Kelly, our PS2 mostly gets used as a DVD player, but there are some great games out there for it - it's a fantastic bit of kit - the enthusiasm game makers have had for it has been a huge help on that though Wink. We bought a TV over Christmas (hooray for the Jan Sale) and were sure to get HDTV Grin Mostly ready for the PS3 ROFL! but also for a few TV shows too Smiley. I suppose we'll have to hunt out a HD DVD player of some sort, but the PS3 should be blue ray disc so that covers that side of things.

Folk say that if you have a choice of King Kong on a Ps2 or an X Box 360, then don't bother with the X Box 360 unless you have HDTV.

You just shove them in well the DVDs you do not sure if I have ever played music on mine. I like Roz mostly use it as a DVD player. The only thing extra I have is a remote control for when playing DVDs which doesn't always work for me.

I set it up last night and it's great.  Grin  I thought I had to buy a remote for the DVD's to play, but thankfully I don't.  It also plays my CDs very nicely.  I put in the original Tomb Raider last night and I'm so out of practice that I died in the first minute!  ROFL!

I already paid for the new one...in full!!!  It was a gift to my husband...who for 8 games for Christmas (I got 3) so I figured he had enough to keep him occupied until the new one came out in April (which was April 18 and is now 11..I think).

I have a DVD player that i won on the radio (of course, it died a couple years later so i bought a new one) so my PS2 really only gets used to play games, but playing DVDS and CDS on it is really easy. You don't need to buy anything extra.
