Thanks to Mak for pointing this out to me as I have not read JK's site yet, but:
He's not an animagnus but no ordinary cat either (which has always been obvious from the fact that he's taken to Sirius and not to wormtongue etc).
But she says "if we read Fantastic Beasts" we might be able to work out what he is.
I shall re-read it tonight and see what I can find out - if you don't have a copy of Fantastic Beasts - or want a UK first print copy then PM me - I have a fair few spares.. don't ask why!!!
Cheers
Roz

From what I have read, I believe he is a half kneazle (I read these books too much, that was typed without even referencing the book ) I believe JK says this on her site.

LOL - I just emailed you saying Mak had found he was half Kneazle... So what can we expect from Crookshanks - does it make him intelligent - what amazing powers will he have - perhaps he'll be the one to kill Voldermort

Kneazles can develop extreme loyalty to their owners and have an uncanny ability to detect unsavoury charcters... Methinks this will be quite useful in Book 6 and 7 what with the imperius curse etc being used left right and centre!
Roz, I sent you an email re. the Sam litho idea. LMK what you think

Indeed you are very right - good old Crookshanks - like Neville Longbottom I have a soft spot for him. In fact I think Neville will turn out to be something of a hero in time

I think he did quite well in OotP. Was willing to undergo the cruciatus curse in order to protect the prophecy. I quite like Crookshanks as well. The squashed up face that l'ooked like he had run headlong into a brick wall' description endeared him to me forever In fact one of the (many) moments that made me giggle in the series was the description (GoF) of him chasing after gnomes in the garden. But the scene that had me in hysterical fits of hte giggles was visualising the scene in OotP where Fred and George let off the fireworks which run rampant over the school and among other things trace rude words in the air. Call me childish, but...meh.

I would have been asked to do it as well, but Roz told me that: 'I would be dead than to see the yakshack in the hands of an elf!'

TT set was pretty good, I would have liked to collect that one in its entirety... but as I have FOTR Aragorn and ROTK Pippin and Faramir already, it would mean some repeating... and I like the autos I have more than the ones in the TT set. Decisions

I wonder if Topps is going to release a second wave of Autograph cards for ROTK after the Update set comes out like they recently did for the ROTK release? I would not put it past them! Maybe then we would get some autos we are really looking for - Sauron, Treebeard, and Gandalf to name a few!

I would like some dual/triple signers eg. Arwen/Aragorn Aragorn/Legolas/Gimli Elrond/Galadriel Sam/Frodo/Gollum Treebeard/Merry/Pippin Eowyn/Faramir Wormtongue/Saruman/Sauron Elrond/Arwen PJ/Howard Shore and i could go on
