We went to see Hedda Gabler at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.  Cate Blanchett and Hugo Weaving reprised their roles from the Sydney production a couple of years ago in order to benefit the Sydney Theatre Co.(I think). Anyway, it's a VERY limited production/totally sold out so I was lucky to get the tickets. Anyway, we waited outside the stage door after the play, and saw some people we NEVER expected to.

1. Lauren Bacall comes out first - never looks at the 10-12 people waiting outside, doesn't wave and acts very arrogant.  Hopping Mad  I'd heard stories that she's not too nice, so I didn't bother asking for an autograph. However, some people there did and she didn't even acknowledge them.

2. Keanu Reeves - Again, I was very surprised, but he came out, signed a few autographs and said he had to go get his car so he couldn't stay longer.  Very nice guy and very cool! I suspect it was the silver Mercedes I saw parked at the corner!

3. Gina Gershon comes out next with a big group of people.  We asked her for her autograph, she said, "I feel funny, I wasn't even in the play!" We said, "we don't care!!!!" She signed our program and was very nice.

4. Cate Blanchett comes out, kind of looks like she's trying to sneak out. But she can't get away  ROFL!, so she signs autographs in a rush, but ONLY the play program, which fortunately is what WE had! She turns the guy next to us down because he only had LOTR things to sign.  I don't know, she seemed a bit odd and very pale. I've heard she was nice, so perhaps she was a bit under the weather. It was a 2 performance day for her. She was amazing in the play - simply brilliant!

5. Finally, out comes Hugo Weaving.  He was a DOLL. He signed multiple things for everyone, no matter what was put in front of him. Very nice and jovial. I managed to get a couple of photos of him.... so here they are

THE VERY BACK OF GINA GERSHON'S AND CATE BLANCHETT'S HEAD....rush rush rush...

Well how fantastic! The odd thing is that another forum member (Choice of Luthien) saw them in Australia after seeing the exact same performance I believe Grin AND caught them at the stage door afterwards what are the chances?

That's IT! I remembered reading that someone had done this before, but I couldn't remember where. Thanks for the reminder Roz Smiley

I must admit I have waited outside stage doors before to catch a glimpse of a few select actors  Embarrassed

That's so cool, Eve!  It's such a rush to meet a celebrity!  Those are great pictures of Hugo too. It's great when an actor will take a few minutes for the fans.  Too bad about Lauren Bacall being such a snob.  My father-in-law saw her at his corner market in NYC one time.  He said he winked at her and she sort of smiled.  Roll Eyes

I know I'm a freak for doing this, but I thought, "when will I EVER see Cate Blanchett again in person?" Probably Never, so I went to the play again Friday night(the last weekend) and waited for her with everyone else.  We snapped this picture.

She was LOVELY. She did sign some programs for some people, and thanked everyone for coming to see her play. She was about to get into her car, but returned to sign one more program for a young girl in the crowd. Very cool. She did not sign any LOTR stuff.

She is Lauren Bacall! that is all you need. She has been in this business for 60 years...I think you could cut her a little slack. Just because she doens't stop to take picutes and sign autographs out side a play on this one occation does not make her a snob. Even if it is multiple occations.. she doesn't owe anyone anything.

KUDOS for Hugo and Cate two of my most favorite actors in the industry.. and he looks awesome with that full beard!!

AND GINA!!! *sigh* I love her!

Maybe so, but a wave and a smile takes all of 2 seconds.  Undecided

Hugo's great, I love him! But that red eye coupled with the beard makes him look evil ROFL!

I wanted to see Hedda when it came out in Australia a year ago, but it sold out almost instantly Sad

i agree with you. its only polite to wave and at least say hi. even if you not going to sign. she may not owe fans anything but with out them she wouldn't be who she is today.
