Oh well that's very interesting, I'm not quite sure what to think of that! I remember all sorts of things (rumours if you like) circulated about the Gamecube discs, we were even told that Ninty could beat the pirates because the Gamecube discs spun the opposite way to normal discs ... (WTF m8?). It wasn't true of course, and I'm sure most of us have seen "modified" (a.k.a mutilated/massacred) gamecubes that take normal DVD discs (for copied games).. As for the PS3, just waiting for the correct power cable to arrive. Should have it tomorrow all being well. You can switch the system menus to English but I expected that because it was the same with the Jap PSP (and the Jap DS funnily enough).
Yeah, too true. Let us know how you get on... ol' Mark won't want to hear if it's good , no, it should be fine, but I can't wait for Wii I've got the dark blue DS lite from Japan so even now the lite is here, it's still special (sort of, well, I love it). I've just imported the new Phoenix Wright game from Japan - it's an adventure game at heart (so loads of text), but the Japanese game is dual langage so you can play it in English (after an adjustment at the start up menu)... if this trend continues then Nintendo of Europe can say goodbye to my custom Helllllllllllllllllllo Nintendo of Japan Great news about the freeloader I'll have to dust that baby off, that could come in handy. We debated a US Wii, but are waiting now for a UK one, I placed my order with Amazon this morning, but have 2 back-up preorders (one at Woolies and one at Gamestation (where we can pick it up after midnight)) so hopefully we won't be caught short. Mark's even booked the day off work (most unlike him, he's a work-a-holic). I heard that the Amazon.com site sold out of Wii in under a minute - Amazon.co.uk was supposed to start pre-orders at 9 this morning but didn't get around to it til nearer 10, and they sold out in around 10 mins or so. I was waiting and refreshing my web page at 9 and the server was grinding to a halt under the strain!!! Everybody's got pre-order back-ups! Great stuff. I ordered one from Play.com and also one from a local branch of Gamestation. Then Play told me last week they couldn't supply one for launch so I cancelled it and ordered another from Argos - and it was all in stock. I also read about Amazon, I'm just debating whether to take the second machine from Gamestation and pop it on ebay. A lot of places seem to have sold out but I keep hearing about others that still have plenty of pre-order stock available. Could be risky and I don't want to be stuck with a duplicate that won't sell. I've not seen a great deal of Wii advertising to be honest but people do seem excited and knowledgeable about it. I'm looking forward to the boxing game in Sports oddly enough. It looks great fun punching and upper-cutting with both controllers!

I was astonished how fast a company as big as amazon.co.uk could sell out. I'm looking forward to the boxing game in Sports oddly enough. I haven't yet pre-ordered any games. I'm also looking forward to wii sports for a rest from Zelda , but I'm not sure what else to get at this stage. What's on your want list?

Excite Truck is a lot of fun, you can really just pick it up and go. also, Rayman: Raving Rabbits is really a whole lot of fun...it takes use of the Wii mote in just about every way possible. It is basicly just a ton of mini games but they are all really really fun and really cute.

I haven't played much Rayman in 3D, the only game I ever bought was hoodlum havoc on the GBA - really good fun though. I have to admit I much prefer 2D to 3D games... yes, I know I'm weird - that's why I love my portable gaming so much

Zelda, Rayman and Call of Duty 3. I'm getting an extra controller and that comes with Wii: Play which is another bunch of sports games - billiards, table tennis to name but two. I'd like Excite Truck but I don't think it's out on 8th December. I've heard a lot of good things about it and it looks very good from a graphics point of view. Zelda looks a bit muddy but I guess that's it's Gamecube heritage showing through. Should still be a fantastic game though.

I think it should all look a bit crisper and less 'muddy' with the component cable. The component cable is quite an elusive beast, and Nintendo sold out in the USA with no more stock apparently until the 18th Dec. Those babies are going for about $150 on ebay (RRP $30). I hope they have some in the UK for launch. I'm gonna grab a few if I can!
If I was goingt to get another game apart from Zelda, Sports and Play it would probably be Rayman. It's supposed to be nothing like other Rayman games and really only very loosely based on the franchise. But above all it's supposed to be a whole lot of fun! Unfortunately I don't get as much time to play games as I'd like these days and I don't like wasting money on games I won't play much so I try and just get the games I REALLY want and let the other ones pass me by.
My shopping list for Dec 8th: Wii (with Sports), Zelda, Wii Play (with extra Wiimote), extra nunchuck, classic controller, component cable. Did I miss anything?

i want both but can't afford them, maybe the poll should show the greedy option as well although i'm thinking the PS3 will have better games and an all round better quality. the Wii seems interesting but it might get boring after the gimic of the controller wares off. plus i heard the the PS3 now has motion sensors?? is this true. maybe it'll be able to do what the Wii does and more?

Has anyone heard about a recall on PS3's due to overheating? I was in my local WalMart store the other day and the sales associate said that Sony issued a recall on the PS3's they sold! If this is true Sony is going to be in a world of hurt after the other problems they incurred this year.

The PS3 pad does have motion sensors - but they've sacrificed the rumble feature. The rumble motors interfered with the motion sensing technology. A company did offer Sony a solution but they turned it down apparently. The PS3 pad is called "Sixaxis" but it's not as sophisticated as the Wii-mote. The PS3 doesn't require a sensor bar though, it's all built in to the PS3 itself. Resistance: Fall Of Man uses the motion feature, when the aliens attack at close quarters, you have to shake the pad to make them let go of you. It's fun to do and it works well.

When the 360 came out they had overheating problems. Friends of mine have now had to send theirs in 3 times (I am not joking) for repairs. I think these types of things you can expect when a system first comes out which is why it is better to wait sometimes for them to fix all these things.

Oooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh the Wii is GREAT! Wii tennis is awesome. I haven't played tennis in ages and I actually feel like I've been playing tennis (except for the tennis elbow It's too soon to call on Zelda as all we've done is run about on Epona and talk to people, but it looks gooooooooooooooood.

The PS3 won't come down in price next Xmas, not unless XBrick drops their price and forces Sony to do the same, and even then, Sony is loosing so much per console it is going to be tough for them to lower prices.
Yeah, early adaptors all are going to have problems, I just had to send in my 360 a week ago because it kicked out.
Oh and PS3 lost the rumble feature because they were sued...by Nintendo. Nintendo owns exclusive rights to the rumble feature and sony stole it from them...that is why they lost the rumble feature.
Roz, I know what you mean...the first day I got my Wii I played Tennis and Bowling with my family for litterly about 10-12 hours that day. The next day I was so sore that simple tasks like walking and standing up were MAJOR chores lol. It definetly gives you a good workout, thats for sure. I just beat Zelda yesterday, If you are a fan of Zelda, you are in for a treat. It is a lot of fun.
