Hi!  I just sold my first set of comics on  Ebay! Grin  However, I would like to print a PayPal label for them if I can, but I have no clue how much it weighs.  Anyone have any idea about how myuch 4 comics, in one full page protectos, with a piece of cardboard and a bubble mailer be approximately?  I don't mind guessing up and paying a little more if I have to, but I want to make sure I pay enough.  If worse comes to worse, I can just pay for it at the post office, but I would like to be able to get the PayPal delivery confirmation service.  Thanks for your help!

Do you have a scale at work?  If not, you could take it to the post office and have it weighed there, then do PayPal shipping from home.

I do have a scale at work.  I just wanted to ship them tomorrow (if the seller pays), and if I bring it to work and then home, I won't be able to ship until Tuesday.  I guess that is still okay though, right?

Are you US based? If you are and you are going to send them out of the US then try Global Priority Mail (Large Envelope) aprox $9.50 for up to 2lb in weight  Grin  I know I get a lot of my Batmann comics from the US LOL just remember to add a layer of tape to the edges of the envelope for strength.

US based and the buyer is US too.  Well, my lot of 31 comics just sold too and since I haven't a clue what that weighs, I am just going to go to the post office at lunch tomorrow with the packages Tongue

I send some of my stuff in flat rate priority envelopes.  It's about $4 (I think  ROFL! ) for as much as you can fit.  But I'm not sure if 31 comics will fit.  Undecided

Well, I just got my scale at home working again.  Who would have thought that it only needed new batteries ROFL!  The 4 come up as .5 pounds with the packaging, so I can round that up to 1 pound, and the 31 come to 5.5 pounds.  Thanks for the help though!

Here you go a simplified list  Grin

Media Mail is used for books, film, manuscripts, printed music, printed test materials, sound recordings, play scripts, printed educational charts, loose-leaf pages and binders consisting of medical information, videotapes, and computer-recorded media like CDs and diskettes. Media Mail cannot contain advertising.

The maximum size is 108 inches in combined length and distance around the thickest part.

Mark each package "Media Mail" in the postage area.

Media Mail Rates

Weight
not over
(pounds)
 Rate

1  $1.59

2  2.07

3  2.55

4  3.03

5  3.51

6  3.99

7  4.47

8  4.81

9  5.15

10 5.49

All you have to do now is add the cost of the packing  Grin

Another note about Media Mail - it does NOT include magazines....

So media mail CAN be used for comics, right?  A lot of people ship them that way.  My lot of 4 is going first class, but the lot of 31 I noted as media mail.

Thanks for the tips!

You can take a chance and ship them that way, but I think comics qualify as magazines.  They have ads and USPS states that Media Mail can't contain advertising.

The lot of 31 comics I'd ship in a Flat Rate Priority Box (assuming they fit safely).  Think it's $8.10 - or it was before the rate change in Jan & I haven't had to use it since then....  Note that there are TWO types of Flat Rate Priority Boxes so check out both...

Well, will 10 comics fit in a flat rate priority envelope?  And are they padded?

Ten comics might fit, but you should add some extra cardboard and mark the envelope "Do not bend."  None of the Priority Mail envelopes or boxes are padded.

Also do remember to tape round the edges of the envelope once you have closed it, this will give it a lot more strength and stop the edges from fraying if it gets wet.

Nope to both questions....  2 regular size magazines will fit safely in a flat rate priority envelope - that's probably 4 comics.  None of the Priority Mail supplies are padded.  There IS a Priority Mail Tyvek envelope they'd fit in, but you'd have to package them well to prevent damage and it's based on weight.

I will chime in and say that it is 100% ok to send comic books using USPS Media Mail...I have done it prob around 100 times and never had a problem at all.

That's because you've been lucky and haven't had the post office open your Media Mail packages during random checks.  I had that happen once, but fortunately the items I shipped were within the guidelines.  The post office has been cracking down because so many sellers on eBay were sending items Media Mail that didn't qualify for that service.

And I don't want to risk that, although, maybe a phone call to the post office to check wouldn't hurt.

One more question.  Does anyone know if, when printing a paypal shipping label, if you can get the priority flat rate price?  Like the box that is $8.10...can I print a label for that if I already have the box, or do I have to take it to the post office to pay?

Thanks for all your help.  Grin
