Australian director George Miller has won the Best Animated Feature award at the star-studded 79th Academy Awards at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood.

Sophia Coppola's beautful, but vacuous, biopic Marie Antoinette wins for Best Costume.

The Departed wins Best Adapted Screenplay

Pan's Labyrinth wins again — this time for Best Makeup.

Best Animated Short......The winner is The Danish Poet.

Best Live Action Short. The award goes to West Bank Story .

Letters from Iwo Jima takes out the Sound Editing award.

Best Supporting Actor.........................The winner is Alan Arkin for Little Miss Sunshine

Animated Feature............George Miller wins for Happy Feet!

I rented both The Departed and Babel this weekend to watch before The Academy Awards as neither film made it to my local theater.  As soon as I finished watching The Departed and even before I saw Babel I knew it would win Best Picture and Best Director.  The ensamble cast is outstanding with so many big name actors and the story line is riveting as is the soundtrack.  I watched Babel and it was very good in a different sort of way but it did not have the action or pace The Departed did.

We watched the Academy Awards last night and I was very surprised that not one of the songs from Dreamgirls won the Oscar for Best Song - the song from An Inconvenient Truth won which was not very good in my opinion.  I think politics got into that vote because all 3 songs from Dreamgirls nominated were so much better.  I want to see the film about Queen Elizabeth and The King of Scotland as well from what I saw of them during the Awards last night.

I'll have to see the Queen as well, but I definitely recommend the Last King of Scotland, Ed. Brilliant acting all round and Forrest Whittaker was brilliant. It's a very confronting film with many shocking scenes - there is a scene at the end which I could only half watch... very very disturbing Lips Sealed Embarrassed
