Wow, you Aussie women are one wild bunch! Wink

Australians stampede to grab new Stella McCartney line

Mon Mar 12, 12:57 AM ET

Hundreds of women overran an Australian department store Monday to snatch up Stella McCartney's new collection, tearing clothes off mannequins and each other in a chaotic stampede for style.

Around 300 fashion-hungry customers, some of whom queued for more than two and a half hours before the doors opened, rushed a Target department store in Sydney where McCartney's limited edition special collection went on sale.

"They were taking clothes off mannequins, they were just tearing clothes off other people -- it was just absurd," said one bemused customer after the frenzy left shelves bare of the British designer's fashion fare.

Long queues also built up outside other selected Target stores in Australia that are carrying the collection, with shoppers stripping racks bare of McCartney items within 10 minutes of opening time.

"Someone just ripped a jacket out of my hands," shopper Lori Herbert told the Daily Telegraph, which quoted another woman as saying she feared for her safety during the rush as a clothes rack was rammed into her side.

The first retail treasures to be snatched up included silk dresses worth 180 dollars (141 US), but items started at 30 dollars, witnesses said.

The 42-item special line by McCartney, daughter of former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney, includes versions of key looks from recent collections for her own brand, redone for Target at greatly reduced prices.

"I wanted the collection for Target to reinterpret all the 'best ofs' and 'must-haves' of Stella McCartney for winter and make my designs more accessible to a wider audience in Australia," she said earlier.

 ROFL!

I didn't hear about this collection until the day of the release. I was at uni when a classmate mentioned she was going to have a look after class - another person told her not to bother - I see why now!

There's a lot of stuff on Ebay now - alot of people just walked in and grabbed stuff and are turning around to flog it off for twice it's value Tongue

It's just a line of clothing at Target.  I wonder why so many people went crazy for it?  I loved this line in the article -- a chaotic stampede for style. ROFL!

lol *raises hand*

I admit I got swept up in the Stella craze, mind you I wasnt lining up at 8am! I went to my local target at about 11:30, not realising what craziness the range was going to cause, I expected that there would be heaps there. When I got there the whole area that was packed with Stella pieces on opening was totally bare, with only two small racks of clothes left. And there were about 20 women bunched around these two racks going through it. I must admit I was a bit shocked with the whole thing. I saw a girl there that I had only met one other time and she was telling me about the craze at another store in Melbourne close by where people were fighting and snatching things out of eachother's hands...crazy!

Anyway as luck would have it I was patient, tried a few things on and got:

Viscose Jersey Top in a lovely pale green colour
Organic Cotton T-shirt (same colour as on website in slide show)
Wool Cashmere V Neck Jumper in a Charcoal Grey/Black colour (v nice! Its long and could be worn as a dress as well)

Website is: http://www.designersfortarget.com.au ..if anyone is interested.

The ones I got were really nice but I dont see what all the fuss was about. The MAJOR bargain was the Wool Cashmere Coat which looks really nice but there were NONE at all i will have to be very very lucky to find one, that's what I went in looking for but didnt get my hands on one Sad for the price it is very good value and I think it's pretty. Everyone was raving about the trench coat but I didnt think it was that special, material quality was a bit lacking.  The sizings were quite large too, I tried the trench coat on in a L and it swam on me, I mean it is mean to be big but not that big.

Anyway that's the wrap-up  Cheesy And dont worry, I didnt push, yell or snatch im not that crazy about fashion  ROFL!

What about rugby? And football - hear about that bloke from the Spanish team Valencia that came onto the pitch after a match and punched an opposing team member in the face, breaking his nose? And of course, who can forget that Zidane/Materazzi incident last year? Tongue

Look at American football and hockey, too.  A New York Islander was just suspended for 25 games for hitting an opposing player in the face with his stick, and that's not the first time an incident like that has happened.

Besides, Tonya Harding didn't club Nancy Kerrigan.  She had a male goon do that for her. Roll Eyes

They should get on a plane to South Africa (hey, they are half way there already Tongue) and go to Woolworths... geez. Woolies might be a boring shop in Britain but the SA one is totally different (like a really posh M&S) and I can't get through the shops without falling in love with another outfit
