My friend's kids play it and all thier friends play it too.  It's gotten to be a bit much for her youngest.  She now limits his playing time or else he would never do anything else.  I've never tried it.

The rule is - homework/coursework anything that needs doing for school gets done first, then and only then can the young jedi log onto Runescape.  Wink

I can well believe how easily the kids get sucked in to playing more and more on sites like these and it's a fine balance between playing for fun and being obsessed with it, so limiting the time spent on it is an excellent idea.
And no, I haven't tried it either ... not interested!  Cool

Welcome back young Jedi  Grin.  Now to show my age, what is Runescape?  Is it an on line game?

runescape in an M.M.O.R.P.G (a masivly multiplayer online role playing game) masivly multiplayer: its not just you, there are LOADS of people on LOADS of different worlds to play on allthe same exept for free and members worlds. online: you don't have to buy anything! (exepet for member subscrition) you open a browser, log onto the website, www.runescape.co.uk, sign up and play! role playing: you play the role of a player which you make when you start out.

personaly, to me, its great!

for info, Sharon, go to the web site

Thanks for the info  Grin.  This is definitely something I could get totally addicted to so I won't sign up until I am on line - I don't think Boggy would be too happy with me playing on his PC into the night  ROFL!

I didn't know what it was either, Sharon.  Undecided

Now that I do, I can totally see how I could spend hours upon hours playing this game!

well, you see, there are a load of skills you can do on runescape e.g. attack, strength, defence, prayer, magic, and members: agility, herbilore (potion making), thieving, farming, and (my favorite) construction (building a house).
I've listed most of them but there are a few more (both members and non-members)

you start at level 1 on all of them (except for hitpoints, if your points go to zero, you die Tongue, they start out at level 10 for hitpoints (that means you've got 10 hitpoints till you die)) the highest you can go on ANY level is 99. if you ARE a lucky enough to get to level 99 on any skill you can get a skillcape.

I'll take a break for a Minuit.

This game has just come into my notice here in the States - no doubt kids have been playing it forever *lol* - but it's come into notice because of what's going on on-line. It seems some friends of my kids have been making low caliber drug deals in the game - buying marijuana and such - so if you are a parent, please make sure you know exactly what's going on - they were apparantly using 'game speak' so that whenever a parent happened to pass by, the parent was not aware of anything shady.

The children have of course had their internet privileges yanked. And if they had been my children a mildly severe beating may have taken place

Thanks for the heads-up Joanna - I'll ask the young jedi about it tomorrow although I think he's more interested in beating the snot out of the other players rather than such unsavoury goings-on as online drug dealing!! Shocked Shocked Undecided
It's still nasty no matter whether it's being done online or on the street corner!  Angry

You'd think they could leave GAMES alone *sigh* I'm privileged to live in a (semi) upscale suburban neighborhood. We've literally got either a school or a church on every corner (one block has 4 churches on it!) so we're pretty insulated from drugs and such.

Well, I asked him about it this evening and judging by his reaction, he hadn't got a clue what I was talking about - thank goodness!! *phew*
Apparently you can go up to anyone and start a conversation with them ...  along the lines of IM ... so if you know the ID of yourfriends and which world they're going to be on, you'd be able to meet-up online and get up to mischief!  Angry
I'll keep an eye on it and anything untoward and his subscription will be cancelled.  Wink

Thanks again Joanna.  Grin
