Inkworks has done well with many of the big TV franchises, X-Files, Buffy, Lost etc. I'm not sure whether that translates to pulling blockbuster movies though.

I would have preferred any big manufacturer, except for Topps. The auto stickers, poor collation, one-insert boxes, and unimaginative cards we've seen for some of its other sets really dampen my enthusiasm for this set. Just look at the Transformers set. I doubt most people will be able to get a complete base set from one box, since the base set has 120 cards. If Artbox could get Johnny Depp to sign for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, I'm sure Inkworks would have had a good shot at getting him for this set. I don't think it's necessarily how big the card company is -- it's more whether the actor wants to sign a bunch of trading cards.

yes BUT
Inkworks and Depp don't have the greatest past history. Think back to Sleepy Hollow. He had an autograph redemption inserted into packs and it was never honored. He never signed for the set, same with Christina Ricci on that set as well. Believe me, I am not a Topps fanboy, I have never had good luck with their sports products, and I agree that the 1 insert per box and ridiclous odds for some cards suck, but I think it is in the best hands possible for a set of this size and importance.

but I think it is in the best hands possible for a set of this size and importance. And I respectfully disagree... I'm firmly in the "I hate Topps" camp because of their new insistance of using stickers for autographs on nonsports cards. I'd be much happier if Rittenhouse, Inkworks, Artbox, or Breyer had this license.

then don't buy any. stickers suck but my god, it isn't the end of the world, is the fact that a company gets a person to sign a sticker and not a card really that big of a deal? You still get the autograph.
Inkworks might not be able to land any of the big names, especially with their past with Depp. Also, they have never really had a HUGE movie franchise product. They do AMAZING TV show sets, I was so let down when Topps got Heroes and not Inkworks because I think when it comes to TV sets, Inkworks sets the standard.
Breyer (no offense) but I don't think that company could handle a huge set like this. they are still a freshman company, and I think they have great great potential, they just need some more sets under their belt.
That leaves Artbox and RA. Out of those two I would prefer RA, they produce some of the best sets out there. Complete Bond is one of my favorite sets of all time. They, out of the four you named, could easily do the best with a set like this, but come on, do you really think they can pony up the money for a licence like this? It's Wal Mart vs. a mom and pop store, which one survives? Topps has the money, and the big name to do this set. and heck... topps makes some great sets. Their LOTR sets are amazing, they got about 95% of the main cast to sign for the set. Lately some of their non sports set have been lacking. Transoformers and Kong are the two that instantly come to mind. But Transformers was not THEIR fault. It was the movie studios. They wouldn't release any more costumes, they wouldn't let any other signers sign cards. Topps did all they could to get out a good set, but unfortunatly, the studios would not comply.
As far as Artbox goes, if they got this set what is to say they wouldn't pull a POAU on us? You critisize topps for impossible odds, I opened up over 50 cases of POAU and never got a Triple, Potter, or Hermione Auto.

I think I will be stocking up on this set thats if we in the UK can get hold of it from US dealers, as to how much I order i'll wait and see for more information about the set.
Any ideas on when the set will be released by Topps?

The POAU debacle was a one-time occurrence. There were major issues with that set, most likely because it was the first time they'd ever produced that many inserts and that many boxes for one set, and they were definitely overwhelmed by the success of POA. In terms of collation, they are getting better (there were fewer case clusters for OOTP than COS, for instance) and dud boxes are much more rare. Their biggest problem right now is the number of auto redemptions. However, I'd rather have a redemption and get a signed card at a later date than have a sticker auto, IMHO. Stickers are not the end of the world, and I might pick up an auto or two from this set, but my preference is still for a signed card.

I agree, I prefer on card autographs just as much as the next person, but if I can have the chance at a Keira Knightly autograph, I could care less if Topps wants to put the signature on a sticker. Plus, another reason Topps does sticker autos is to have them pack inserted. They can send them a generic silver sticker to sign WAY before they begin printing of the cards.
And I only referenced POAU because it DID happen, and it COULD happen again. If Artbox got the licence, this wouldn't be a 600-700 case release, I think it would be more than double that, which means unless they could get the big signers to do 100+ cards the odds would be pretty far off.

I still will be on the fence for this set Topps seem to do a great set then the next one is a stinker. Until we get a concrete signers list I will find it hard to fully look forward to this set. And for the sake of all the really die hard POTC fans I hope they make a killer set.

NSU is reporting that Topps has cancelled the forthcoming Pirates set. Sorry to all those who were anxiously anticipating it's arrival Bet they couldn't get the signers they wanted or couldn't get it out in a reasonable amount of time. Pity, I was really looking forward to the base set!

Well, if there is a bright side, just think of all the money you'll save by not having to buy the set. I was wondering how I was going to afford Heroes, OOTPU, and POTC, so at least one thing has been taken out of my hands.

I didn't really have time to get excited about this one, which is a good job as I'd be outraged right now!!!

Anything is possible, but Topps said it was canceled, not delayed.
