This is following on from the following thread: http://www.theyakshack.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,5514.0.html

This autumn sees the release of the first 'His Dark Materials' story to the film medium and unsurprisingly therefore in to the trading card arena as well.  (Information that was requested about the book/film series can be found below the trading card information)

Inkworks have announced the new Trading Card Set for 'The Golden Compass' to be released in November 2007.  The Inkworks press release and set specifications are as follows:

The Golden Compass
Premium Trading Cards
Coming November 2007!

This exciting fantasy adventure is set in a parallel world where people’s souls manifest themselves as small animals, talking bears fight wars, and children are mysteriously disappearing. The film is based on the first book of Philip Pullman’s best-selling, award-winning trilogy, “His Dark Materials.”

Inkworks captures all of the action and amazing worlds with a 72-base card set.  In addition, collectors can look for several different levels of randomly-inserted bonus cards including:

TRUTH TELLING - Six lenticular cards featuring the alethiometer (the Golden Compass) that helps Lyra find her missing friends during different stages of her epic journey.

LYRA’S WORLD - Six 3-D lenticular cards share the fantastic world that Lyra lives in.

FIGHT TO THE DEATH - Six cards capturing the amazing battle between the fighting bears Iorek and Ragnar.

DAEMON FORMS - Three cards that utilize flip technology to depict Lyra (Dakota Blue Richards) and her daemon animal form Pantalaimon, Mrs. Coulter (Nicole Kidman) and her daemon Golden Monkey, and Lord Asriel (Daniel Craig) and his daemon Stelmaria.

OTHER WORLDS - One case loader card.

THE GOLDEN COMPASS

9 CARDS PER PACK
24 PACKS PER BOX
10 BOXES PER CASE

RATIO FOR INSERTS

Truth Telling Set of 6 Lenticular Cards (1:9)
Lyra's World Set of 6 3D Lenticular Cards (1:9)
Fight to the Death" Set of 6 Cards (1:7)
Daemon Forms Set of 3 Cards (1:23)
Other Worlds Case Loader Card (1 per Case)

One thing I'm not sure of, is if the Inserts are individually numbered or how many exist of each.

Series Information:

As a question of it was asked in the thread linked above, 'The Golden Compass' (the title of the first book/film in the 'His Dark Materials' trilogy, although in the UK the book is titled 'Northern Lights) is based on an original work by the British author Philip Pullman.  The trilogy has seen massive worldwide sales as well as fame, talk, controversy and critical/award winning acclaim.  It is no suprise therefore that the book series has a very large international fanbase and the film's should do well to.  One should be able to buy the books from most bookshops and all online retailers.

The story follows a young girl named Lyra in a world like ours, but different in many ways and it is (as you may have guessed) mainly fantasy based.  Like the Harry Potter series, 'His Dark Materials' seems to be enjoyed by all generations and both genders.

A follow up book to the trilogy was released a few years ago, called 'Lyra's Oxford' and Pullman has also announced that two further follow up books are to be released ('Once Upon a Time in the North', which was just announced very recently and 'The Book of Dust', which has been talked about for years now!).  Pullman has stated a possible release date of 2008 for the first yet to be released follow up.

The only cards Inkworks have ever serial numbered is their sketch cards and the Buffy Propworks Stake Card.

There is nothing here to serial number anyway.  There will be LOTS of each of these chase cards.  There are no "high end" chase in the Golden Compass set.

Actually there has been a little bit more announced:

11 Pieceworks Cards (1 per box)
•   PW1 - Lord Asriel's Suit (Daniel Craig)
•   PW2 - Dual Swatch - Mrs. Coulter's Dinner Dress (Nicole Kidman)
•   PW3 - Lyra's Blue Dress (Dakota Blue Richards)
•   PW4 - Serafina's Dress (Eva Green)
•   PW5 - Mrs. Coulter's Cocktail Dress (Nicole Kidman)
•   PW6 - Mrs. Coulter's Capelet (Nicole Kidman)
•   PW7 - Lord Asriel's Tweed Jacket (Daniel Craig)
•   PW8 - Lyra's Arctic Coat (Dakota Blue Richards)
•   PW9 - Lyra's Best Dress (Dakota Blue Richards)
•   PW10 - Farder Coram's Coat (Tom Courtenay)
•   PW11 - Fra Pavel's Coat (Simon McBurney)

Unfortunately, all of these are "material used to make" the costume, not actual show-worn items.  But it's still better than nothing.  And the price point is fairly reasonable for this product, around $42.00 a box on pre-order.

"Material used to make" seems to be a pattern [so to speak] with costumes from New Line Cinema properties. 'Twas true throughout Lord of the Rings. So either NLC doesn't keep close track of the history of the material, or they only give up costumer cuttings and hold onto "actual" costumes for themselves.

Or even more likely ... It's five weeks until the movie premieres. If it's like LOTR, they still have 4-1/2 more weeks of filming. Stuff's still needed on the set.  Wink

I opened two cases and finally, on the last box, got all of the Piecework Cards.
There are some nice varients of the swatches. And PW2 and PW8 are Redemption cards.
My breakdown for 2 cases:
11 Pieceworks Cards (1 per box)
•   PW1 - Lord Asriel's Suit (Daniel Craig) ................................................... 2
•   PW2 - Dual Swatch - Mrs. Coulter's Dinner Dress (Nicole Kidman)................ 1
•   PW3 - Lyra's Blue Dress (Dakota Blue Richards)........................................ 2
•   PW4 - Serafina's Dress (Eva Green)....................................................... 2
•   PW5 - Mrs. Coulter's Cocktail Dress (Nicole Kidman).................................. 4
•   PW6 - Mrs. Coulter's Capelet (Nicole Kidman)........................................... 1
•   PW7 - Lord Asriel's Tweed Jacket (Daniel Craig)........................................ 2
•   PW8 - Lyra's Arctic Coat (Dakota Blue Richards)....................................... 1
•   PW9 - Lyra's Best Dress (Dakota Blue Richards)........................................ 2
•   PW10 - Farder Coram's Coat (Tom Courtenay).......................................... 2
•   PW11 - Fra Pavel's Coat (Simon McBurney).............................................. 1

All of the duplicate swatches were the same in my cards.
