Rumor has it that execs at the WB are considering splitting the final installment into two separate films and are looking at getting Steven Spielberg to direct. While Spielberg would be fantastic, I am not sure I like the idea of splitting Deathly Hallows into two films...I think I'd rather have an epic finale. Just a rumor right now... What do you all think?

I remember exactly the same rumour doing the rounds re. the GOF movie... it's possible of course, but I'm not convinced.

Wouldn't bother me....... just as long as they show one after the other..... not one on a separate day etc.

If they do split this film I expect they will do it the same as The Matrix ie they will release both films within a few months of each other. Whilst I like the idea of not rushing the films I really think that OotP or HBP would have been a better choice for two films

Yeah I'm sure we'd have a few months between the films at the very least. So we'd all end up seeing it upon release and no doubt they'd show the 2nd film back to back with the first... not to mention that this would mean we'd have 2 original sets of cards and any number of update sets

I just feel that if they split the final installment, it would wreck or interrupt the emotional journey the written work takes you on.

I would prefer one film myself, i think it has more to do with it being the final film and a money making thing more than anything else.

To me, there isn't a logical point where the story could be cut in two. The first part wouldn't have a great deal of action and the second part would be overloaded with it. It just doesn't make sense to turn DH into two movies.

I'm not sure splitting it would be the best thing to do, just because I hated the way they did it with the final two Matrix films... It would be really neat if Spielberg directed them, however.

Well, looks like an official announcement is coming very soon, possibly tomorrow.... Deathly Hallows will, indeed, be two films to be released November 2010 and May 2011, respectively. Though I love stretching out a series we have loved so much, I really don't like the idea of splitting the final book. I mean, LOTR was a trilogy...as was the film series. I just don't think I like this idea. I guess I wanted an epic for the final film. At least we wouldn't have to wait for a year in between films.

Thats still 6 months between installments...its not even the longest book, so surely a 3 hour film is possible.

You would think. What was so awful about an epic for the final installment? Or is this a money thing...it is one of the most popular series of all time...

Definitely a money thing. Cindy is right, I don't see where they can stop the first installment and than pick up the second.
And of course, they will probably make us buy two DVD's when they come out instead of making one long DVD/Blu-Ray. Again, more money for them to make off of us.
Hey, anyone know when HBP is due out in theatre's?

No idea where they would break the film. The journey the book takes you on will be disrupted and that will be disappointing. You know, I was thinking about the DVD issue. Probably will be two separate DVD's initially...to be later placed on one. P.S. The extra card sets are now a reality. Seriously, can't some wonderfully mad scientists create a money tree?
