Warner Bros. announced today that the release of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince has been moved from November 2008 to July 17, 2009.

http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/harry-potter-half-blood-prince-moves/story.aspx?guid=%7BF4F52B7F-D1B1-4DC0-BF8A-AD0D9252BE7A%7D&dist=hppr

I wonder what Artbox will do now that its big end-of-year release will be pushed out to next July?

Artbox had to have seen this coming.  I imagine they weren't getting images since things weren't progressing well.

Can anyone say Memorable Moments 2?  ROFL!

Artbox needs a new license.  You can't survive on Harry Potter alone in the card business.  Though it seems like Artbox is trying...

I think the article/press release said that Warner Bros. wanted the movie to come out in the summer and there were some issues stemming from the writers' strike, too.

Can anyone say Memorable Moments 2?  ROFL!

Come here, Ed......that's it......a little closer......

The article said that post-production was finished on time, and if it was already finished, that was way early compared to some other films! I hope this means there isn't any excuse for redemption cards. It looks like the movie timing is based only on marketing, to pick a release date where there isn't a lot of competition. It can work in their favor if they bring out all three films a year apart.

Too early, they'd have to change the format. (Though I admit that there are plenty of suitable moments left.) They could finish out the Literary set. I'd guess the obvious candidate would be a diversion to a "Masterpieces" or "Art & Images" theme. You could make a great base set just out of the sketch and commission art that's been posted on Scoundrel over the last couple of years.

Reports and rumors say that sample sketch cards from a dozen or so artists were shared with Warner Bros in early '07, but Artbox couldn't get a clear agreement on an approval process, and they went with the World in 3-D format instead. There's no new "buzz" yet from the artist community, but I'd guess that the Corporate talks about a sketch-based set never really stopped.

Things were "progressing" just fine from what I understand the film is basically done, WB have moved it because they want to make sure they have a good film for 09. The whole thing is crazy and it is going to hurt a lot of company's  Popco for one is going to suffer a great deal as they will be unable to release any of the toys that have been in production for the last several months. I imagine Artbox probably have a ton of images and the set is probably near completion.  This move isn't about the film not being ready.

With so much time to prepare MAYBE we will be spared an update set, what possible excuse would there be?
Then they could have a SUPER* set with a 135 or so card base set and 25 Autographs, 20 costumes, and 30 PROPS,
all of course with DOUBLE and TRIPLE swatches and Autographs.

Tower, how about some of your famous card ideas?

Props: Dinner invitations from Slughorn.
         Cork from poison honeymead bottle.
         Piece of the cursed locket.
Strands of silver Unicorn tail hair.
Piece of Bezoar (sp? You get the idea.)
Page from Half-Blood Prince's potion book.

         (Just ideas, or wishful thinking?)

*SUPER= Doesn't mean just BIG. It means unusual PROPS, NO DANG BLACK SWATCHES, and a  spectacular
background. (I must admit that Artbox has done great at this.)

I don't know how many people care, but I guess this means the video game is getting pushed back to? I would love for that to still release in November.

I think its bad show of Warner Brothers to mess us about like this, just because they haven't got any good films coming up. There was going to be a Royal screening which would have made money for charity which is going to have to be shelved now, now that isn't fair at all.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7562557.stm

I'm thinking of not playing Warner Bros game and waiting for the DVD. They've made us wait that long whats a little longer?

What I think to the film being delayed until July 2009 is unprintable!!  Hopping Mad
Like everyone else I was really looking forward to seeing this film prior to Christmas followed swiftly by the card set - I wonder what the heck Artbox are going to do now?
I'm certain H€ll will freeze over before Warner Bros will allow many more promotional stills to be released for this film let alone a card set!  Shocked Angry
Whilst I can see their logic in wanting to release the film at a time they perceive will gain the maximum returns for their investment, leaving it until the middle of next year kills the momentum of the story and to an extent, people's interest in the Potterverse.
I know there's the Beedle book to look forward to in December but that's an incidental publication - nice to be sure but definitely not in the same league as the film in spite of the vast sum of money spent on it at auction.  Roll Eyes Tongue

Oh no, i wasn't the one with the ideas, i just started thinking about the look sometimes after Artbox had announced the cards.

What about the release date of the card set? I'm not sure, if i understood Nienna right. Is there a possibility for a November 2008 release of the card set for the July 2009 movie? Artbox must have contracts, already announced the set, there are preview base cards and Autographs. Why not releasing in November? Maybe Artbox has already all the stuff they need and are allowed to release the set as planned ...  Roll Eyes

I would guess that WB will not allow Artbox to release the set until a few weeks before the movie premieres.  WB is very protective of the images that are released and probably won't want people getting a head's up about the movie eight months before it comes out.

Thomas - I very much doubt that Artbox will be allowed to release the HBP card set in November as planned, I expect some kind of press release from them stating that it has been postponed to a date nearer to when the film is released next year.
It won't matter whether they have all the materials to make the prop and costume cards or not, the set won't be released. Doesn't matter that there have been preview sets with the November release date on them either, Warner Bros won't allow Artbox to release any more images/stills from the film in a card set.

I don't 'know' any of this information, I'm only guessing - would be great if I was proved wrong though ...  Wink

I also think that Artbox will schedule some other filler set to take up the November release slot [like we need another one of these sets!  Hopping Mad] ... only time and a LOT of frantic re-organising will tell what they decide to do.  Roll Eyes

Sorry Cindy .. I was just in the process of typing this when you posted, so I thought I'd leave it as is!  Wink

No problem, Jules. Smiley

I would guess that every manufacturer with a license for HBP products is in a bind over this.  Imagine some of the toy companies that have all ready spent the money for molds and production, only to be told they can't sell the products until sometime in the spring. Undecided  It's the sort of thing that could put a company out of business.

I don't know that Artbox has enough time to produce a different set for November, but I expect a filler set sometime around January or February.  Instead of a regular card set, they could produce a specialty set or two, like the 2008 SDCC costume set.

Yes, I almost feel sorry for the toy manufacturers ... well the smaller outfits not the big guys. They would be all geared-up to flooding the market with HBP goodies ready for Christmas and then bam, this happens! In some ways I'm rather pleased (no pester-power for the latest 'must-have' Potter stuff) but in other ways I'm not ... I'm just thinking of the families of those workers who might be affected especially with the economy taking a dive like it is at the moment.  Undecided
I agree, I'm sure some businesses will fold because of this.  Sad

I've also heard that because Daniel is reprising his lead role in Equus on Broadway from September onwards, WB didn't want people associating the 'Boy Wizard' with the nekkid chap with his bits on show!  Roll Eyes

That could be.  Filming for Deathly Hallows begins in February, so I guess Daniel will be done with Broadway by then.

Yes, I believe so ... I think it's supposed to be a six-month Broadway run (or thereabouts) with the filming starting straight afterwards.  Wink
My guess is we'll never know the real reasons why the decision was made to delay HBP ...  Sad
