I was looking up general HP stuff on ebay and came across something called doujinshi which looks like manga to me.  In the descriptions where it lists the "pairings", some of them are girl/boy, but most are boy/boy.  Is this like gay fanfiction or are the pairing they talk about just platonic and are merely listing who the book is about?  I'm confused and it's all in Japanese so I can't figure it out from looking.

Update:
So after looking at a few more auction photos I think I've figured it out.  Roll Eyes  I wish I could find one of the regular or comedy ones in English.

Yeah, it's gay fanfiction in a manga format.  The way that JKR protects her copyright, I'm surprised she hasn't gone after the people who produce this stuff.

Then the question becomes, what are you going to do about it, for "fan" creations in Asia? Even though _copyrights_ are fairly well respected in Japan, perhaps the _trademark_ rules are less clear.

One quote: "The Japanese publishing industry recognizes the popularity of doujinshi and often looks the other way rather than pursuing copyright infringement enforcement against fan-created manga."

But perhaps it's in the vein, "Never wrestle with a pig; you both get dirty, and the pig likes it." If Jo's agents pursued it, instantly it's News. Right now it may be under the radar screen, and it's done to all popular authors. Slow it down in Japan and the supply moves (in theory) to China, and you'd never wipe it off the internet or the comic shows. Make a big news story about it and more people around the world might get ideas.

It's 'interesting' to see how much fan-created manga is on eBay. Often the internal Intellectual Property programs get aggressive, but you might already be in an area where a type of work is socially and at-least-semi-legally accepted in the country of listing. There's even a half-dozen eBay Guides on what doujinshi is and what to look for and avoid if you're buying.
