Question about Philosopher's Stone movie (non US members may know)

Okay, I just won an auction for all 5 HP movies on Blu Ray. It is coming from Israel, but says it is for all regions, including the US. The first movie is HP and the Philosopher's Stone. Anyone know, in the actual movie, when they talk about the stone, do they still call it the Sorcerer's stone?

And if they do indeed say Philosopher's Stone in the movie, is it bad voice over, or did they actually make two different movie versions?

I did find online where someone said they do have an actual "Philosopher's Cut" version, where they do say it, but I would like to know if they just voice over the original moie cut they made...

They filmed all those bits twice, so in one version its "philosophers" and the other version "sorcerers"

lol Sara... this was WRITTEN here, it was FILMED here ... so they are more likely to badly dub in 'Sorcerer's' than to badly dub in 'Philosopher's' (but I do understand your concern).

Rest easy - you are getting just-as-good-if-not-better versions. It was only the US where it was called Sorcerer's... apparently the meaning of a philosopher is not the same in the US (my mind can only boggle as to what a Philosopher does in the US...)

You are absolutely correct. I guess since I have only seen the US version, and the blu-ray version was just released in December...I got a bit concerned. I had no idea they filmed those bits twice. Of course, I still want to get the Sorcerer's Stone version as well to feel as if I have a complete set. Can't have my kid be the only kid in the US getting in fights with other children over what the real name is. Oh, I admit, it is even going to be weird for me to watch the first time.

And beings these are coming from Israel, I need to hope they are in English It says they are. hehe. I hope they play in my PS3 too...they are supposed to be "region free". The guy sells to the US a lot and has 100% feedback, so hoping I am fine.

Roz, I don't fully understand why they ever changed the name either. I would have been fine with it the way it was. Ryan says that a Philosopher philosophies and a Sorcerer does magic.   

Now, when the movie was released in the UK, did they release it as Philoshoper's Stone or Sorcerer's Stone in the movies?

Over here a sorcerer does magic and Philosophers are great thinkers and would make people think of Plato or Aristotle.

I'm guessing that the US was the main country for which the title "Sorcerer's Stone" was used. IMDB lists the alternative titles used for the movie title release, but I'm not sure how the stone is referred to in the movies themselves. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0241527/

It's amazing what you can find using Google.  According to the Wikipedia Encyclopedia, JK Rowling's first novel, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was retitled Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone for the United States.  My memory is not what it should be, but I think they called it the Sorcerer's Stone at least in the English language movie.  Did you know the Harry Potter books have been translated into 67 languages making them the most translated books in history.  The first translation was from English to American English.  Here I thought we all spoke English.  Sorry for the trivia.  I thought it was interesting.

It was called Sorcerers stone only in the US english language movie...the rest of us got the Philiosophers stone version.

I assume so...but i couldnt be entirely certain. All I know is that it was changed for the US because of the Sorcerer/Philosopher issue....
