Hi all,

Whats the best to store cards?
Ive just took out my mandrake root card from a snap holder, not really tight and it`d stuck fast  Lips Sealed
I`m worried about my other cards now. Should i put them in a plastic sleeve first aswell or will any stick to that over time?

John.

Maybe not, this particular card had a lot of gummy substance in it's construction which seems to ooze out.  It needs a much thicker snap holder than the card is.

I used to put all of mine in snap cases until it got out of hand. I have now moved all except the high value ones out of snap cases and in to a binder with the 9 card pages. Ones to thick to fit, remain in their snap cases as well.

Are most snap holders acid-free and archival quality?  I was under the impression they aren't.  I store my thick cards in binders, using a sleeve designed for thick cards, a top loader and a four-pocket page.

Any holder can cause sticking or damage if it's too small or too large.  The card should not be compressed by the holder.  I received a costume card and was not happy to discover that it was encased in a screwdown that wasn't thick enough.  I was very careful when I removed the card, but part of the card stuck to the plastic and was damaged.

The bark of the Mandrake root is made with foam rubber.  It's a nightmare to store.  I had one in the toploader with the magnets.  I was scared to death when I took it out.  After reading some post on Yak Shack about the top loaders, I took all of my card out of them and put them into the card sleeves (regular and think card).  These sleeves contain no PVC's.  I place the sleeved cards into a Team Bag (3 3/8 inches by 4 1/4 inches with a resealable tape on flap.  I store these packets in the Harry Potter tins.  Personally I've had trouble with album pages and my coin collection.  The bookcase I stored them in had excessive exposure to the afternoon sun.  My coins were in cardboard sleeves.  No damage to the coins, but the pages got awfully brittle.  Personally I don't trust the plastic pages particularly with thick cards.  The sleeves are made for standard size cards only.  You also have problems with the extra thick cards.  I broke a pocket trying to get the card in it.
