In Oz, the meal after the main course is called dessert as well.... when I first read 'pudding' in English books, I always thought it was like a Christmas plum pudding kind of thing.

Speaking of which, I just had 2 scoops of burnt toffee and butterscotch icecream for dessert/pudding. Mmmmm..... Wink

Oh honestly people - FTY just wanted to know what was in a Spotted Dick. I'm sure she know what a dessert is! Tut...

Spotted Dick is a steamed sponge pudding with sultanas and currents in.

Bubble and Squeak is indeed fried leftover vegetables, although I've never heard of it in a burger shape...

Samwise, are you not familiar with Cockney Rhyming Slang? You can abbreviate it further so you can just say "'Ere, mate! You're 'aving a bubble!"

Apples and Pears = stairs
Dog and Bone = phone
Syrup of Figs = wig
Trouble and Strife = Wife
Rub a Dub = pub

Money:
Lady Gadiver = Fiver (£5)
Cockle / Monkey = Tenner (£10)
Apple Core = Score = Twenty (£20)
Nifty / Red = Fifty (£50)

Thanks for clearing that up Mark... from the replies I was getting, I was not sure if I was asking the wrong question  - some sort of cultural barrier  Wink
