The Price Guide - Now with 1,100 cards and prices based upon 57,500 auctions!

Posted on 13/01/2008 at 00:34:02 by Roz

Wow.

I've just taken a look into the database, the price guide now contains pictures and info on 1,100 individual cards or sets and is based on .... 57,500 auctions. It's astonishing. The price guide is so much bigger and better than we ever thought it would be.

Without any more ado, I present the latest update complete with pictures of all the cards. May I present the Order of the Phoenix Collectors Update Set?

Enjoy!

OOTP Released and added to the price guide

The latest Artbox HP set is already upon us, so banish those post-christmas blues and get looking at the set on the Shack forum.

We've also added this latest set to the price guide. The price guide is undergoing some changes at the moment so unfortunately the set doesn't have pictures, but standby we are working on it. Otherwise the price guide should be working as per normal... please get in touch if you see otherwise!

Please also note the new system for dealing with redemptions. Redemptions are now in their own section, and once the autograph is returned and released the auto will be added to the autograph section.

Thanks again and Happy Collecting Yaks

A news article for the sake of it?

Posted on 28/12/2007 at 22:26:36 by Roz

Well folks it appears that although we all do our bit (even me!) to keep the price guide going and up to date, I'm utterly hopeless at keeping the news up to date!

The reason for this is quite simple, the forum and price guide are so hectic, but fantastic. I can't tell you how amazed Mark and I have been over what a success the guide is. It's populated with so much data now that it's a truly valuable archive of information.

Despite this there's really no room for sitting back on our laurels and enjoying the view - more and more card sets are coming out all the time (especially from Artbox eh folks!) and as I write the first boxes and cases from the Order of the Phoenix Update set are being cracked open and the price guide for that will be debuting shortly. I'm looking forward to a string of films next year some of which are bound to have accompanying card sets (e.g. the new Batman Film), the Topps Heroes set and much much more so I hope you'll stay with us for all of those.

We really are so pleased with how well the price guide has turned out, but as I say, there's always room for improvement. There are several untidy bits with missing pictures. There may even be some cards missing. We do plan to run a competition (involving everyone in finding mistakes/missing info/missing pictures & involving sending in your contributions, pictures and inputs to make the guide more complete) in the near future... so watch this space for that one soon.

In the meantime keep your eyes and ears glued to the forum for more info on the OOTPU set and a big thank you to everyone who has made this place such a huge success.

All the best for a happy new year both on the Yak Shack and off it ;o)

Roz & Mark

July '06 Update - new sets covered by the guide include the 'Goblet of Fire Update' set, 'LOST Revelations', 'Lord of the Rings Evolution' and Harry Potter 'Memorable Moments'

Posted on 02/07/2006 at 15:24:09 by Roz

Since the last update some great new sets are out and there are even more on the horizon. We are covering two new sets from Artbox: The Goblet of Fire and Memorable Moments.

The Lord of the Rings Evolution set has sprung up on us all and emptied our collective bank balance. The guide will not cover sketches for this set; the variable nature of sketches make it difficult to give an 'average' price for a sketch, but pricing advice can always be sought on the main forum.

The LOST: Revelations set is pegged for a mid-August release but pictures of the cards have been released and the price guide is under construction.

Since the last update we have had a lot of new auction entering helpers join us but we are always looking for new troops so that we can cover more new sets. If you are interested in helping out please contact us. I just want to say a big thanks to everyone who's ever entered an auction, the guide is currently made up of data from 37,500 auctions, this is an astronomical number, and through the law of averages and looking at past ended auctions should certainly guide you well when deciding how much to splash out on a card.

Happy collecting everyone

UPDATE - new sets covered by the guide include Batman Begins, LOST Season 1 and Goblet of Fire

Posted on 21/12/2005 at 00:33:01 by Roz

Three great new sets have been added to the guide; Topps' Batman Begins, Inkwork's LOST Season One and Artbox's Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire.

All three sets have been wonderful to collect, especially Batman Begins which although was only a small set to collect (8 major cards in all), covered all the main cast, unfortunately Christian Bale as Batman was the notable exception to this, but that does not detract from the fact that East End legends Michael Caine and Gary Oldman signed, and Hollywood sweetheart Katie Holmes also signed. For the first time ever Star Wars hero Liam Neeson signed for a trading card set and the up-coming Irish actor Cillian Murphy rounded off the autograph selection well. The memorabilia cards were just as well thought out, a piece of Batman's cape and a piece of rubber from the tyre of the Batmobile are definite "must haves" for any fan, and the very hard to find Batman Chest Piece Memorabilia card gave fans a close up view of the mysterious body armour.

LOST Season One was the first trading card outing of JJ Abrams popular ABC series that took America by storm and caused controversy in the UK with the number of advertisment breaks it appeared to have ;o), the set is equally well thought out, the chase set "Numbers" - each card celebrating one of Hurley's "cursed" lottery numbers (with the number laser cut out of the card) is easily the best chase set of this century! Some people have had problems recieving scratched or peeling cards but I suppose this is the price you occasionally pay for innovation. The pieceworks (costume card) line up is wonderful, covering all the main cast of season one. The only unfortunate absentee is Boone, which is a shame as we are unlikely to see him feature in card sets for later series. The autograph line up is also a break through - most notably Evangeline Lilly (Kate), Josh Holloway (Sawyer) and Maggie Grace (Shannon) top the line up but their autographs are also available on official "autographed pieceworks" cards. All in all this has been an very exciting premiere set, and I for one can't wait to see where they take this set next.

The Goblet of Fire set has been an interesting release, highlights include Gary Oldman (Sirius) and Rupert Grint (Ron) signing once again, and autographs from Brendan Gleeson (Mad Eye Moody) and Miranda Richardson (Rita Skeeter). The costume cards had a re-vamped design which worked well and costume cards were available for each champion. However it was thought that overall the prop set was rather lack-lustre, but an interesting set all the same.

At last count the price guide covered 600 cards and had price backed up with (hold your breath) 20,000 ended eBay auctions!

This is an astonishing achievement and really shows how reliable and realistic the prices given in the guide are. Thank you to EVERYONE who has made this happen
